Overview

This annual workshop helps participants teach effectively with cases. The workshop, run in association with the Richard Ivey School of Business, dispels the mystique of teaching with cases while helping teachers avoid some of the elementary pitfalls. The framework of the workshop is based on the unique concepts developed by the tutors.

Participants

Teaching with Cases will be of benefit to a wide audience, including:
  • Experienced and inexperienced teachers interested in participatory learning and case use
  • Teachers keen to improve their performance
  • Junior and senior faculty
  • Those from any sector or discipline
  • Supervisors of case teachers
  • Teachers wishing to reflect on their approach.

Programme

Day 1

  • Sample case class
  • Case method tools and process
  • Case teaching prerequisites
  • Course planning using cases.

Day 2

  • Preparation for a case class
  • Managing the classroom process (part 1)
  • What to do if it happens to you.

Day 3

  • Managing the classroom process (part 2)
  • Evaluation and feedback
  • Case use variations
  • Case use in a non-case environment.

Objectives

Case teachers will become more effective and will:
  • Gain practical insights
  • Understand prerequisites for case teaching
  • Develop planning and preparation
  • Learn participatory techniques
  • Manage the case classroom process
  • Be able to evaluate and give feedback on participation
  • Explore case use variations
  • Deal with challenges in a non-case environment.

Fees

£695/€825 non-residential
Fees include course materials and lunches. ecch member organisations receive 10% discount.

A minimum of one subsidised place for participants in developing countries is available on this event. If your organisation qualifies for our membership scheme for developing countries you may be eligible. Contact the events team for further details.

Discount for attending Writing Cases

The annual Writing Cases workshop will be held at the same location, directly after Teaching with Cases. A discounted rate is offered to participants attending both workshops:
