Few resources on the delivery of health services and health technologies in low-resource settings currently exist for educators. The Global Health Delivery Project at Harvard University has begun to fill this gap with a series of teaching cases and accompanying teaching notes examining principles of health care delivery in low-resource settings that are freely available for download and distribution.
The Global Health Delivery Project (GHD) is a joint initiative of Harvard Medical School’s Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s Division of Global Health Equity. GHD aims to stimulate collaboration among health care stakeholders and systematize the study of health care delivery to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice in global health.
To create the foundation of a growing case series, GHD identified innovative, successful programs and organizations working in global health. Case writers and faculty made field visits to these projects to conduct interviews with key decision makers. GHD learned about the strategic and managerial principles that helped facilitate these programs’ successes as well as the challenges they were struggling to overcome and then used the findings to create detailed teaching cases illustrating these lessons and the complexities of working in the field. Accompanying teaching notes were developed to guide instructors in facilitating classroom discussion of these cases in undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in global health.
The teaching cases allow examination of real-world challenges faced by global health programs and organizations that seek to deliver health care in low-resource settings and prepare students to be leaders in the field of health care delivery.
GHD cases are available for free to all registered users at ecch.com by downloading a clean pdf of each case from its record in product search. Click on a case title below to access its record.
