Abstract:

This is the third of a three-case series (306-511-6 to 306-513-6). This technical note supplements technical notes (A) '306-511-6' and (B) '306-512-6'. This note provides an in-depth analysis of the issues that individual luxury companies face and the industry as a whole is facing in emerging markets, notably in China and India. It tries to elaborate on business issues and provide scope for debate between: (1) old and new luxury; (2) luxury and mass luxury; (3) counterfeits; and (4) grey markets, and concludes with future challenges.
