This is the second of a three-case series (306-511-6 to 306-512-6). This technical note supplements the (A) note '306-511-6' and gives an overview of the global luxury industry providing an in-depth analysis of the luxury industry in emerging markets, notably China and India. It tries to elaborate on the business environment of China and India, whilst discussing the market specific, the trends in the industry, the success factors and the industry apprehensions that characterise this sector. It touches upon the evolving consumer profile, their background and within the backdrop discusses how companies are adapting their strategies to do business in these markets. Technical note (C) '306-513-6' discusses such issues as: (1) new luxury; (2) mass luxury; (3) counterfeit; and (4) grey markets that are faced in the luxury industry in emerging markets.
