Background to workshop
This intensive workshop, presented in association with the Richard Ivey School of Business, will be led by one of the world's most experienced case method tutors. The workshop aims to help participants write effective cases quickly and develop skills to create a more enriching classroom environment for their students.
Participants
Writing Cases will be of benefit to a wide audience, including:
- Experienced and less experienced case writers and teachers
- Case writers and teachers keen to improve their performance
- Junior and senior faculty
- Those from any sector or discipline
- Supervisors of case teachers
- Business based case writers.
Programme
Before the workshop Each participant will be required to complete a pre-workshop assignment. This will involve conducting a field interview with a case contact person and writing the opening paragraph (up to 60 words) for a potential case. During the workshop, each participant will complete a short case based on this interview.

- The case difficulty cube
- The case writing process, including the case origin, establishing leads, data collection etc
- The case plan
- Actual field experience
- Rough drafting of the case
- Preliminary teaching note preparation
- Editing the case
Workshop objectives
Case writers will become more effective and will:
- Learn to write effective cases quickly
- Develop the confidence to write their own cases
- Be able to offer their organisations a better use of resources
- Learn case writing techniques
- Develop their own short field-based case
- Develop their own preliminary teaching note

EUR1365/GBP895 residential EUR910/GBP595 non-residential Fees include course materials, lunches and a workshop dinner on 8 July. Residential fee also includes accommodation (6, 7, 8 July) and all other meals. If you have chosen the non-residential option, we strongly recommend that you book accommodation early.
