press release, December 2003
Support for developing countries through new management education initiative

A major new initiative will give developing countries hitherto unaffordable access to many of the world's best management teaching materials. The new concessionary pricing programme (CPP), will enable business schools and universities in the world's poorest countries to use case studies and teaching materials, authored at many of the world's foremost business schools and universities. Under the scheme, which operates from November 2003, a case study will be offered at 58p per copy, representing an 80% discount on the standard price of GBP2.90. CPP, is open to countries that have a per capita Gross National Income (GNI) of US$745 or below, according to the annually published statistics of the World Bank. Currently, 65 countries are eligible (see list in Notes below).

ecch, based at Cranfield in the UK and the largest single source of case studies in the world, has gained the cooperation of most of the world's case study producing institutions for the scheme. The discounted price will apply to orders for electronic permission masters for use on degree granting programmes at academic institutions that are members of ecch.

According to Jeff Gray, Director of ecch, "the CPP scheme evolved as a coordinated response to numerous requests for more affordable teaching materials for the developing world. The majority of case writing schools have proved strong supporters of the scheme, which will enable their colleagues in less developed countries to access for their students the same quality teaching products that they develop and use. In keeping with our charitable status, we, at ecch, are delighted to have had such cooperation and financial commitment from the authoring schools to make the project work. We hope that this initiative will inspire other organisations to make further teaching materials, so critical for the future of the developing world, more affordable and thus more accessible".

Organisations wishing to register for CPP can find all necessary information and complete an on-line registration form at: www.ecch.com/cpp Any further questions on eligibility or materials covered by CPP can be addressed to the ecch Project Officer, Hazel Goodson, at h.goodson@ecch.com
