What is a teaching note?

A teaching note should provide information helpful to other users of the case, by summarising the learning objectives, salient issues within the case and the author's experience of using the case with students. Teaching notes vary in content and length but do not typically contain an 'answer' to the case.

Do all cases have a teaching note?

No, we encourage authors to submit a comprehensive teaching note but it is not a requirement. Of the cases we distribute, 50% have a teaching note but 80% of the 50 most popular cases have one.

How can I find a case that has a teaching note?

If you wish to search for cases which have an accompanying teaching note available, enter your search criteria in the advanced search form and check the box 'teaching note available' near the bottom of the form. If you are looking at the full product details of a case, any accompanying materials, including a teaching note, will be shown in the related products section.

Are teaching notes accessible on-line?

No, our distribution agreements do not allow us to provide on-line access to teaching notes. However, if you and your organisation are eligible for electronic delivery, teaching notes (with the exception of materials from Harvard) can be provided as sealed pdfs.

Do I automatically receive a copy of a teaching note if I order a case?

No, teaching notes are sold separately. Please add the teaching note to your order if you require a copy.

Can I have access to teaching notes if I am not an instructor?

Teaching notes are strictly for instructors use only, however, administrators at educational organisations may order teaching notes on behalf of an instructor.

Can I hand out teaching notes to my students?

Teaching notes are strictly for instructors use only and making them available to students is not permitted.
