What is an inspection copy?

An inspection copy gives you the opportunity to view a case and consider whether it is suitable for your requirements before placing an order for multiple copies. It is supplied with a watermark and is not for classroom use.

Eligible registered individuals can view more than 33,500 full text inspection copies on-line (please note that teaching notes are not available as on-line inspection copies). Alternatively a single paper inspection copy can be ordered. Paper inspection copies are supplied as double-sided, single sheets, stapled in the top left corner.

Are inspection copies free?

On-line inspection copies are accessible free of charge to registered eligible users through case search. Paper inspection copies are charged at the standard price per copy.

Who is eligible to view on-line inspection copies?

Members of faculty world wide, administrators at educational organisations and staff at our corporate member organisations are eligible. Please note that different terms apply to materials from Harvard Business Publishing.

What are the restrictions to materials from Harvard Business Publishing?

Staff at our corporate member organisations and customers from China are not eligible to view on-line inspection copies of materials from Harvard Business Publishing.

How do I find on-line inspection copies?

If you wish to search for cases with on-line inspection copies available, enter your search criteria in the advanced search form and check the box 'inspection copy available on-line' near the bottom. If an item has an on-line inspection copy available, a pdf icon will display next to its details in your search results. Click on this icon to view the on-line inspection copy. If you are not logged in, you will be prompted to do so.

Can I reproduce an inspection copy for use with students?

No, an inspection copy must not be reproduced as this breaches copyright. Inspection copies may be viewed for your own personal use to assess the suitability of the material for possible teaching purposes. If you wish to use a case with your students, please place an order for multiple copies.

Can I e-mail inspection copies to my colleagues/students?

No, this breaches the license agreement which you agreed to during registration for case search. On-line inspection copies may be viewed and one copy of each title may be printed for your own personal use to assess the suitability of the material for possible teaching purposes. If you would like to let a colleague know about an interesting case, please use the e-mail a colleague feature at the end of a products full details case search.
