INSEAD wins European Business Schools Case Challenge 2005
A team of MBAs from INSEAD won the European Business Schools Case Challenge 2005 which was held at the Said Business School from 1-3 April. 14 teams from Europe's top business schools came together to compete on a specially commissioned case study Softline Ltd. Helsinki School of Economics received a special additional prize in recognition of the depth of its team's analysis in particular aspects of the case scenario.

During the first part of the competition, each team had to produce a written report making recommendations on the future strategic direction of Softline. The five finalists then had to prepare presentations while the nine unsuccessful teams had a case session with the author of the case and chairman of judges, Dr John Constable. All the teams worked anonymously under pseudonyms of British poets to ensure objectivity in the judging.

Professor David Hall, the driving force behind the creation of ecch in 1973 donated the winner's trophy and it is to be named in his honour. The winning team also received a cheque for EUR6,000. The first Business Schools Case Challenge was held seven years ago and won by the Said Business School, who therefore hosted the 2005 competition. ecch now intends to make the European Business Schools Case Challenge a biennial event.

The schools that competed: Cranfield School of Management, ESCP-EAP (Paris), Groupe ESSEC (Cergy Pontoise), ESADE (Barcelona), Groupe HEC (Jouy-en-Josas), Helsinki School of Economics*, IESE* (Barcelona), IMD (Lausanne), INSEAD* (Fontainebleau), London Business School, RSM Erasmus University* (Rotterdam), Said Business School* (Oxford), SDA Bocconi (Milan), The Michael Smurfit School of Business University College Dublin.
